Cabarrus County,
North Carolina,
established in 1792, lies within the shadow of the bustling metropolis city of Charlotte.
Located in North Carolina's south-central region, Cabarrus County features the
signature hilly countryside and refreshingly moderate climate of the Carolina
Piedmont. Widely known as the Center of American Motorsports, Cabarrus
County, NC has the heart and soul of stock car racing embedded in its fabric.
Encompassing 365 square miles, Cabarrus County includes twelve townships and
several cities and towns. Concord
and Kannapolis are
the larger cities within Cabarrus County, NC. Concord, population 55,977, serves
as the seat and center of commerce for Cabarrus County. Kannapolis,
population 36,910, is the birthplace of the late Dale Earnhardt
Sr., and Dale Earnhardt Jr.,
both renowned NASCAR drivers. According to the Census
2000 data, Cabarrus County is home to 131,063 residents.
As part of the sixteen-county Charlotte Region, Cabarrus County, North
Carolina enjoys a prosperous economy with tremendous potential for expansion. Cabarrus
County joins with some of its leading municipalities to offer new and
expanding companies beneficial resources that include its 'Industrial Incentive
Grant Program'. Traditionally, the local economy thrived on manufacturing
industries; however, recent surges in growth are occurring in the financially
based sectors. Cabarrus County, NC houses a labor force of more than 78,000
employees who enjoy a median household income that rises above the national
average. Its strategic location along the busy Interstate
85 affords businesses convenient access into and out of the area.
Cabarrus County operates a highly successful school
district and serves the majority of the county, with the exception of
designated sections of Kannapolis.
Residents also have several private schools from which to choose. Higher
education facilities include Barber-Scotia
College, the Cabarrus
College of Health Sciences and a campus of the Rowan-Cabarrus
Community College. The Charlotte
campus of the University of North
Carolina is a short distance from Harrisburg
via Interstate 85.
Cabarrus County,
North Carolina stands out as an inviting destination for tourists. Concord
Mills Mall in Concord is North Carolina's most popular destination. Lowe's
Motor Speedway, also in Concord, is an exciting super speedway racetrack
that holds nearly 400 race-related events each year, including three major NASCAR
races. Considered the heart of NASCAR, nearly 90% of the major racing teams
operate their headquarters within 50 miles of Lowe's Motor Speedway. Cabarrus
County is also home to the Reed
Gold Mine. In 1799 it was the site of America's
first gold discovery.
Additional attractions include several famous race shops, such as Hendrick
Motorsports, scenic parks and various dining and shopping facilities
throughout the county.
