sparkling fountains. Monroe became a railroad market town in 1874 and the
two-terminal depot

of Trees Gala is a pre-Christmas affair that includes a silent auction of
fine holiday decorations. The Blooming
Arts Festival sponsored by the Union
County Arts Council each spring draws patrons from all around to view the
local arts, crafts and quilts. Music
on the Plaza provides live music each Friday at lunch hour.

corridor. Situated only 24 miles east of the dynamic city of Charlotte,
