Mount Holly, North
Carolina calls itself “The Little City with the Big
Heart”. This charming town lies between and just to the north of the major
cities of Gastonia
and Charlotte,
about 12 miles away. Mount Holly boasts lower housing costs and substantially
lower crime rates than its neighboring metropolises.
The powerful Catawba
River and Mountain Island Lake border Mount Holly to the east, providing
scenic beauty as well as hydroelectric power. Citizens here show strong
commitment to keeping their waters clean and their surroundings pristine. Mount
Holly residents come together to celebrate their town for Easter Egg Hunts, the
annual PawFest,
the Catawba
River Float, and the Spring Festival. A number of quiet parks
and noisy athletic fields suit any mood.
Mount Holly’s population, according to Census
2000, was 9,618.This showed a 25% increase since the 1990 count. North
Carolina's 2003 estimate for Mount Holly was 9,591. Gaston
County and the entire Charlotte
Metro Area show consistent expansion and growth, being one of North
Carolina’s fastest growing regions.
Mount Holly,
NC is primarily an industrial town. Using the force of the Catawba River,
textile mills sprang up here in the 1800’s and remain an economic force today.
Six plants of the American and
Efird Corporation operate here, along with a Clariant
dyestuff plant and a Burlington
Industries mill. The Freightliner
Corporation has a truck assembly factory here. New industries are
discovering the Charlotte Metro Area, and companies such as Gaston
Technical Support now call Mount Holly home.
Residents of Mount Holly enjoy a number of fine attractions
within a short drive. The proximity to Charlotte provides a plethora of live
sports to watch, and a huge array of cultural activities. Gaston County boasts a
number of tourist
sites as well. Regional history dating back to the Revolutionary War is
persevered in the King's
Mountain National Military Park. The Latta
Plantation brings to life the 19th century. The natural beauty of
the region stands out at Crowder
Mountain State Park, where rock climbers can see for twenty miles.
